Portfolio: Alexian Brothers Hospital Network
One of Priva/GKC's biggest clients during my time working there, the volume of work generated for this client means they get their own page.
Alexian Jobs
HTML/CSS and graphics creation, maintenance, testing, information architecture, administration design
Alexian's HR site with dynamic job listings maintained by HR themselves. It includes an online application form that lets the user select multiple jobs to apply for, then send a complete application and/or résumé along, which is stored in a database until HR can review it. The site has become quite successful; even a new VP of Marketing found the job through this site.
This ended up being my first taste of working out information architecture, as our client contact kept sending us confusing information on how jobs were split up into departments, categories, and specialties. Once we had made sense of it all—and it turned out not to be all that confusing—I worked out a way to present the information to the user in a way that made sense and allowed them to pare down their choices.
Alexian Nurse Recruitment
HTML/CSS and graphics creation, testing
A simple brochure site to draw in new and experienced nurses to the Alexian Brothers Hospital Network. Despite current unemployment rates in the US, there's still a big shortage of qualified nurses.
Alexian Cancer Institute, v1
HTML/CSS and graphics creation, testing, administration design
Alexian wanted to create informational sites for some of their service lines. The Cancer Institute was the first area we tackled, with content management areas for news, clinical trials, informational tips and events the Institute was holding for patients and their loved ones. This version of the site was just about ready to launch, but about that time, Alexian's marketing department had gained a new executive (see Alexian Jobs, above) that wanted to take their web properties in a different direction. As a result, this site never saw the light of day.
Alexian Cancer Institute, v2

XHTML/CSS and graphics creation, maintenance, testing
As part of the new direction, we proposed templated sites with matching functionalites, driven by a component CMS structure that would allow data from one site, such as news articles or calendar events, to be shared with any other site within the suite. The Cancer Institute, since it had been completed once before, was the first site to go up as part of this collection.
A note about this and all sites following: While, at the time these sites went under production, GKC was starting to produce sites depending more and more on CSS for layout, a conscious decision was made to use tables to structure these sites. We were under a pretty rigorous production schedule, and given the serious nature of these conditions, we thought it better to make sure they worked consistently across browsers, rather than confront a user, who either they themselves or whose loved one is dealing with a potentially fatal illness, with a message saying, "Your browser is too old to use this site, please spend who knows how long downloding the latest version."
AlexianConnects
http://www.alexianconnects.org/
XHTML/CSS and graphics creation, maintenance, testing
One of the components in the new Alexian site-suite was AlexianConnects, designed to promote Alexian's new physician referral service. Though users were persuaded at every opportunity to call AlexianConnects' toll-free number, they still had the option of asking for a physician appointments online.
This site is a temporary one-page bit of brochure ware. While each site was to display only those physicians relevant to the service line (for example, oncologists and other relevant specialists on the Cancer Institute site), the AlexianConnects site will eventually display the entire Alexian physician directory.
